We celebrated our 40 & 35 birthdays by going on an Alaska Cruise with our good friends, Steve & Janet Rainie (who were celebrating their 15th anniversary). I am so very glad that we did this trip together with them. Our friendship with them is one that allowed us to not be together all the time on the cruise, yet we connected during suppers and spent the evenings together (with the women dominating at Rook!). We laugh so much with them and it was a trip we will always remember!
We had to be at the airport for 4:00am...so we didn't even go to bed the night before....this is our "we've been awake for 24 hours" breakfast look.
Ready to get on the cruise ship! Pretty excited!
So much wildlife and scenery on this cruise. What a privilege to be able to see so much of God's creation!
We took an excursion up to this glacier. The pictures don't at all even begin to do it justice. It was huge and beautiful. The blue colours reminded Mckenzie of the "Frozen" castle. This picture was taken when we were still 2 miles away. The closer pictures is when we were only 1/4 mile away. We were able to hear it "calving" and saw some pieces break off...very spectacular!
Another excursion we went on was a wildlife raft boat tour. It was an enjoyable time and we got to see a lot of sea lions, bald eagles, water fountains and seals.
Likely our favourite excursion was the float plane tour and salmon lunch. You have to see the glaciers by boat and air to truly comprehend the majesty of them!
Steve got to be the co-pilot on the way to the lodge.
The cruise didn't disappoint when it came to the entertainment each night!
HEY! I know that guy! :) He's pretty good looking!
For some reason, Steve ends up on stage for YMCA quite often. (what also surprises me is the fact that the far guy on the right - Steve Rainie - even got up on that stage ;) ).
See....YMCA! (at his brother's wedding back in May 2006!)
Back to the cruise :)
The scenery was beautiful!
I might have been absent from work but I didn't forget about it :).
I went and attended a cooking class. We learned (and were able to sample!) a 5 course meal....so delicious! It was such a fun hour!
In typical Steve fashion....we bought watches :)
Some of the different towel animals that graced our bed!
Formal Night Supper #2
Our waiter was great! Really, all the staff were fantastic! We had such a fun time with him and all of his card tricks!
The displays were amazing!
This was an amazing week! I mentioned to Steve on the final night that I enjoyed it more than I enjoyed our honeymoon. It was such a great time spent relaxing in each other's presence, enjoying activities together, sleep, eating, playing lots of games, laughing together, and catching up on life together. I love this man and am so excited for our future together!
If you've never been to Alaska...I highly recommend! Such a great trip!
