Ezra started this past week off with a fever of 102 last Sunday. We gave him some tylenol and put him to bed. Monday he still wasn't his normal self and wouldn't eat a lot, but his fever had broke.
Tuesday afternoon Ezra started to throw up...we put him to bed and yet Wednesday when I went in to wake him up, Ezra and his crib was covered in puke. He continued like this for the morning. By the afternoon, I took him to the doctor's office, who said to give him some pedialite. They also said that if he couldn't keep that down, that we needed to get him to the ER. Two hours later, I still wasn't able to keep anything in Ezra so off we went to emergency. Where we sat for 6 hours before seeing a doctor. We were given some Gravol suppositories (poor little guy!) and told to give him pedialite. We got home around midnight and all of us went off to bed!
Wednesday was filled with more throwing up on Ezra's part and he was lifeless (not talking, laughing, smiling), just limp whenever I carried him. So at 2:00 I headed back into emergency. There, I was informed that it would be a 5-6 hour wait due to 8-10 people ahead of me. This would be when Mama Bear Correna came out. I asked her why a 7 month old baby who hasn't been able to keep anything in his stomach for over 48 hours even with Gravol suppositories didn't get priority. The nurse asked me what I wanted done and I said that I wanted Ezra to see a doctor now. She wouldn't do it...so I said that this ER was a joke (which it is!) and that we weren't staying. I then took Ezra to the doctor's office. The doctor took one look at Ezra and called the ER. We were sent back to the ER where Ezra was hooked up to an IV right away there we were for close to 5 hours.
It took the nurses two tries to get the IV in (he didn't like that at all!). Once they had it in and going, he just crashed on me....Ezra doesn't sleep on a person at all! So this was a rare treat (although I don't ask for one like this again!)

This was Ezra after 5 hours...the first smile that I had got in 48 hours. He rolled over and laughed and giggled and I wanted to cry since it felt like such a long time since he had done that.

Thank you Dr. van der Merwe for taking such immediate and GREAT care of our son!
