Planning a birthday for my mom is difficult (mostly because she doesn't like being the centre of attention)...planning a SURPRISE birthday party feels like a very daunting task. Yet, we somehow managed to pull it off - and it was AWESOME! I honestly felt like she would figure it out as so much was dependant on her not figuring it out...lol...yeah, that sentence made NO sense! But bear with me.
Her birthday party involved 50 of her friends and family (60!!! Keep in mind that it was a surprise. I did tell my kids...no way they could keep a secret!).
Her birthday party was on a Sunday evening for supper. Sunday afternoon at 3:00 was a bridal shower at the Church that she was attending. Someone dad had to convince her to stay in town after Church until the bridal shower - turns out that was easy, since they skipped Church, finished chores, came into town early to watch Sawyer and Cooper skate, and then she came to the shower. Dad then headed to the Multiplex to walk the track.
Supper was at 6:00. 6:00!!!! At 5:00, mom called dad saying to come and get her...oh man...I wish I could have recorded that conversation.
Glenys: You can come get me.
....
Glenys: Fine...finish your laps but don't shower.
....
(hahaha...she was ticked!)
Glenys: Whatever Glenn, do what you what you want love, but I'm ready to go.
2 minutes later my cell phone rings:
Glenn: You've got to help me out! I need help keeping her entertained for another hour!!!
(he was freaking out!).
I told him to calm down, that we would get her to help tear down the shower. So I enlisted help from the other organizers and we put her to work.
Two other things I was worried about when I left the Church and headed to the restaurant (she thought we were going to Lazerts for supper when I left the Church before her).
1. She had snacked in the afternoon so I figured she would tell dad she wasn't hungry and that she just wanted to go home.
2. That when she got to the restaurant she would see all the vehicles and tell dad that they should eat somewhere else since it was so busy.
Low and behold, Jesus was on our side. She was all for going to a restaurant (dad told her he was starving!), she picked KA Cuisine to go to, and when she saw all the vehicles she was excited thinking this was their busy night. So great! She had NO IDEA!
Side note: KA Cuisine - if you haven't been...you must! So good! And the owners are the sweetest people ever...they bend over backwards for their customers! They even shut their restaurant down and allowed us to have a private party with them. AND we got to select the buffet items. It was so great!
This was at the point where mom smacked dad because she realized that he was in the plan of it all :)
