December 25, 2012 - Merry Christmas!

For Christmas this year, we kept it low key with just family on Christmas Day, which was SO NICE!  Steve's parents (Bob & Jan), my parents (Glenn & Glenys), and Steve's brother & family (Peter, Tammy, Zac, Zane & Genesis) all joined us for a relaxing and fun day.   I have commented many times that it was probably our most relaxing and enjoyable Christmas that we have had yet.  I enjoy hosting and celebrating any occasion with family and friends (and that we have done many times throughout December!), it was nice to conclude the Christmas season with our family with us.

We gathered together for Turkey and Ham feast at 1:00pm.  Afterwards we relaxed, opened more presents (like we needed them!), played some minute to win it games, had an appetizer supper, more games and visiting, and the Parkinson tradition - Christmas crackers.

I am constantly reminded throughout the holiday season that it is important that we teach our children that Christmas isn't just about the presents, food, games, and visiting (although all are nice), but that it is about the birth of Jesus Christ.  Because of His birth, we have the reason to celebrate Christmas but also to celebrate life in general.  Because of His birth, we are able to look to the Cross as we know that Jesus was born to fulfill a purpose and that he would die for my family so that we will always have eternal life in heaven.

So to that:

Today, we celebrate Jesus' birth, God's gift to us: a child born to save the world. Merry Christmas!
